Brik is the new collection of sofas designed for Bonaldo by Martina and Massimo Castagna. The name, which refers to the brick as a symbol of modular design, is a tribute to the design essence of the sofa. The system comprises a central section, a corner element, a pouf and an armchair, all of which share a soft and welcoming aesthetic. Featuring a compositional criterion typical of the 1980s, the modules can simply be placed next to each other, overcoming the rigid and formal patterns that have become established in recent years. In terms of size and context, Brik is ideal for a vast range of configurations, from individual compositions that are perfect for residential living areas to large-scale solutions in more extensive spaces in which each element becomes a single seat, single-sided or double-sided, thus giving space to a new concept of conviviality.
Massimo Castagna was born in Italy in 1957, graduated from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1984, and founded the AD architettura studio in 1986. He has always dealt with architecture, interior and product design according to an approach that links the three disciplines together in a coordinated spatial design. A language that shuns fashions and trends, a contemporary language, never shy in its aesthetics, a language in which the purity and tactility of materials are essential elements that put the perceptions of the senses and the physical experience of space at the centre. His work has influenced the evolution of design and interior design in recent years, in balance between form, material and artisanal processing techniques, seeking expressiveness as a whole, an approach linked to the wisdom of the hands, to know-how, the true essence of Made in Italy. AD architettura's work ranges from product design for high-end Italian brands, to interior design and architecture for high-end residences around the world, spread across Italy and Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States.
